A popular and traditional Catalan spirit, a sweet, dark caramel-colored liqueur, originally artisanal elaborated in Montserrat from green nuts and aromatic plants, naturally aged in oak barrels, with an aroma of nuts and various aromatic herbs and a very characteristic flavour. It is made from the maceration of different fruits, such as green walnuts, together with lemon peel, herbs, and different spices, such as cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and bramble branches, in an alcohol-based on brandy.
The Abbey of Montserrat used to make this liqueur and still can be purchased directly when visiting the famous mountain, the sanctuary, and its surroundings.
This liqueur is usually preferred for desserts, but it also goes well in aperitifs, presenting a bitter and powerful taste, and especially digestive, which is why it is preferred at the end of lunch or dinner.
